Jason Bourne 6 gets a major update from Matt Damon himself. While The Odyssey actor confirmed the long-awaited sequel is still in development, his comments have also sparked fresh discussion among fans about what the next chapter should deliver.
What is the Jason Bourne 6 update?
On The Rich Eisen Show, Matt Damon spoke to the host about his new movie and the Jason Bourne 6 movie. When asked whether he was still on board to play Jason Bourne, he replied, “Sure, yeah.”
He added, “I’m talking to- there’s a great director named Ed [Edward] Berger. He did All Quiet on the Western Front, and he’s a wonderful director. We’re talking about it. We’re just trying to figure out. We’re trying to nail the story down.”
Matt Damon’s update on Jason Bourne 6 has drawn mixed reactions from fans. Some are excited about the possibility of the franchise continuing with Damon, while others are worried that another entry could further ruin the legacy that the first three movies left. Fans are in agreement, though, that if there is another Jason Bourne movie, it needs to capture the same tone, intensity, and practical vibe that The Bourne Identity, The Bourne Supremacy, and The Bourne Ultimatum had. The Bourne Legacy and Jason Bourne both received criticism for being over-the-top and taking the franchise in new, unwanted directions.
@karizmalolo wrote, “if they really lean back into the first three, that’s the right call.” @BoiFenti commented, “Hope they can recapture the intensity of the original trilogy.” @tolgaguzel38 had similar opinions and wrote, “if they really want the first three vibe, keep it practical and paranoid.” @zekitunca1 added, “if they really lean into the first three, the hand to hand fights matter most.”
Regardless, Damon confirmed that the story is still being developed and indicated that he intends to reprise his role as Jason Bourne if the project moves forward. Speaking further about the challenges of continuing the Jason Bourne story, Damon added, “It’s a linear story. So, it makes it more challenging to do a sequel where you’re giving people what they want but also enough new stuff that makes… you know, what I mean? It’s a tricky one.”
He recently played Odysseus in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, which is currently playing in theaters worldwide.
