Singer-songwriter James Blunt has finally responded after late actress-singer Hayden Panettiere‘s book story went viral on social media. Following the unexpected death of Panettiere, internet sleuths claimed that Blunt had made the former Nashville star uncomfortable in a luxury yacht cabin.
The musician shared a post on X with just an eye emoji, linking to an article that debunks the false claims that he was a culprit in a disturbing moment mentioned by Penettiere earlier this year in her autobiography, This Is Me: A Reckoning.
The former Heroes star referred to a “very famous man,” an unnamed musician. Penettiere’s friend Stella introduced her to him back in 2009, when they were on a yacht. She revealed that the unnamed man was “undressed” when she first saw him. Stella then told Penettiere to “get in bed with him. He has a huge d—.” However, she decided to leave the place immediately after telling the man, “this is not going to happen.”
Lately, this story has gone viral, with many claiming that the unnamed man was none other than James Blunt. However, the article linked by the 52-year-old clearly states facts while also clarifying the picture.
The article written by journalist Dean Piper mentions that Blunt wasn’t the creepy man in the cabin of that yacht that day. It implied that Panettiere clearly didn’t meet the unnamed man again after she fled the yacht in May 2009.
Had it been Blunt, they wouldn’t have crossed paths again in a span of days. But they did, first at the amfAR charity event and then on a boat. Which means Blunt wasn’t really the anonymous musician the late actress mentioned in her biography.
What we know about James Blunt and Hayden Panettiere’s relationship
James Blunt and Hayden Panettiere shared a close bond, though it’s unclear whether they were romantically involved. The two met in May 2009, at the Sharon Stone-hosted amfAR charity event.
They soon became good friends and even shared fun moments together on a boat in Cannes the next day after the charity bash. Panettiere was accompanied by her friends, along with Blunt. It was also when she had just broken up with her then-boyfriend and TV presenter, Steve Jones.
Hayden Panettiere passed away earlier this month, on August 16, 2026. She was found unresponsive at a residence in Greenville, South Carolina. Later, it was confirmed that she was in cardiac arrest.
The authorities revealed that first responders and Emergency Medical Services tried to revive her using advanced cardiac life support. However, their efforts “were unsuccessful, and the individual was pronounced deceased at 2:32 PM,” read the statement.
