WANA (Jul 03) – He Wei, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of China, met with Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf on Friday morning.
The Chinese delegation traveled to Tehran to attend the official memorial and funeral services for Iran’s late leader.
During the high-level meeting, both officials emphasized the necessity of elevating bilateral ties to a more robust strategic level amid rapidly evolving geopolitical dynamics.
Ghalibaf: No U.S. Interference Tolerated in the Strait of Hormuz
Welcoming the Chinese delegation, Parliament Speaker Ghalibaf expressed gratitude for Beijing’s political and economic solidarity.
He stressed that current regional shifts demand closer alignment between Tehran and Beijing to counter global unilateralism.
“The Americans continue to pursue a policy of unilateralism globally,” Ghalibaf stated. “To mitigate and prevent the expansion of regional tensions, close political and economic coordination between Iran and China is of paramount importance. Timing is critical for coordination in the Persian Gulf and Southwest Asia.”
Ghalibaf made a pointed declaration regarding maritime security, affirming Iran’s control over the vital trade corridor. He noted that Iran has successfully resolved transit issues in the Strait of Hormuz for Chinese vessels, describing China as a nation that stood by Iran during difficult times.
He then issued a direct warning to Washington, stating clearly that the Islamic Republic of Iran will not allow any American interference in the Strait of Hormuz.
The Speaker also revealed details of a recent diplomatic trip to Muscat, noting that under Article 5 of a newly signed memorandum, Iran and Oman have agreed to co-regulate maritime traffic, with plans to consult other Persian Gulf littoral states in the near future.
Ghalibaf addressed the broader regional security matrix as well, accusing Israel of actively trying to disrupt the recent memorandum of understanding signed between Iran and the United States. However, he maintained that the deterrence power of the Islamic Republic will prevent them from restarting a war, adding that Tehran aims to reduce tensions through disciplined tactics and precise political measures.
Expanding Parliamentary Diplomacy
The Iranian Speaker also identified legislative cooperation as an area ripe for growth. He remarked that the level of relations between the two parliaments is currently short of the ideal benchmark, urging expanded parliamentary diplomacy alongside existing frameworks within the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
China Reaffirms Strategic Partnership
Responding to Ghalibaf, Vice Chairman He Wei extended China’s deepest condolences to the Iranian government and its people. He echoed the call for stronger bilateral relations, pointing out the historical milestones connecting the two nations.
“The friendship between China and Iran is long-standing, and we will continue to develop our relations further,” He Wei said. He noted that this year marks the 55th anniversary of the establishment of formal diplomatic relations and the 10th anniversary of their comprehensive strategic partnership, stating that Beijing is ready to seize this opportunity to expand bilateral ties beyond previous levels.
