Hong Kong’s first astronaut, Lai Ka-ying, will deliver a live lecture from space to students and teachers at her alma mater on Wednesday morning, with the session also to be broadcast to pupils across the city and neighbouring Macau.
According to an Education Bureau notice sent to all primary and secondary schools on Tuesday, Lai and her two fellow Shenzhou-23 crew members – mission commander Colonel Zhu Yangzhu and Zhang Zhiyuan – will take part in the “Tiangong Class” at Tsuen Wan Public Ho Chuen Yiu Memorial College.
The 1½-hour event, which will begin at 9.50am, will also be attended by representatives of the youth sector and innovation and technology community. A delegation from Macau will visit Hong Kong to attend the lecture in person.
The government said it encouraged primary and secondary school teachers and students to watch the broadcast on campus.
The event will also be streamed live on the Information Services Department’s website and Facebook page, as well as on local television channels.
Jointly organised by the Hong Kong and Macau governments and the China Manned Space Agency, the event will feature an expert lecture, in-orbit demonstrations and a question-and-answer session designed to showcase the space environment.
