Hong Kong lawyer faces new charges after second person accuses him of indecent assault

A Hong Kong barrister faces additional charges after a second person accused him of indecent assault, joining a former pupil who levelled similar accusations over events that took place nine years ago.

Prosecutors on Tuesday told Eastern Court that a second victim had come forward to file a complaint against Simon So Shun-yan, who was admitted to the bar in 2018 and founded his own chambers that same year.

The 32-year-old faces two new counts of common assault and another of indecent assault, in addition to the original two molestation charges.

The new charges allege So assaulted the second victim twice at a flat in Sai Ying Pun on March 11, 2014, and again in October that year.

He was earlier accused of molesting the first person twice at the same flat in Sai Ying Pun on August 30, 2017. The court previously heard that the complainant was a pupil So had supervised.

So earlier clarified that the first complainant was not, in fact, a pupil at his firm. Rather, the person was part of a group of juniors mentored by the barrister, who referred to him as their “master”.
