Germany’s top two professional football divisions, the Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2, recorded their highest-ever ticket sales in the 2025-2026 season, with a total of 21,404,258 tickets sold across both leagues.
The average number of spectators per match reached 34,974, marking the highest level in the history of German professional football. The figures are based on the total number of tickets distributed, including complimentary and honorary tickets, in line with international reporting practice.
The statement noted that ticket sales in the Bundesliga rose by 9.1% compared to the previous season, reaching 12,718,097, up from 11,653,239 in 2024-25.
The average attendance per match in the Bundesliga climbed from 38,082 to 41,562, with the promotion of Cologne and Hamburg to the Bundesliga last season playing a significant role in the increase. Both clubs brought large fan bases and stadium capacities well above those of relegated Darmstadt and Holstein Kiel.
Total ticket sales in Bundesliga 2, meanwhile, declined compared to the previous season, falling from 9,330,725 to 8,686,161, with average attendance dropping from 30,493 to 28,386 per match.

Stadiums near full capacity
In terms of stadium occupancy, the Bundesliga recorded a rate of 96.1%, up 0.2 percentage points from 95.9% in 2024-25. Union Berlin, Bayer Leverkusen, Bayern Munich and St. Pauli all achieved full occupancy of 100%, and 16 of the league’s 18 clubs recorded occupancy rates above 90%.
In Bundesliga 2, Preussen Munster led occupancy figures with close to 100%, followed closely by Schalke at just under 99%.
In absolute terms, Borussia Dortmund led the Bundesliga with an average attendance of nearly 80,000 spectators, followed by Bayern Munich with around 75,000 and Hamburg with around 56,900.
In Bundesliga 2, Schalke recorded the highest average attendance with more than 61,000 spectators, ahead of Hertha Berlin with 47,000 and Kaiserslautern with 46,000.
The Bundesliga also outperformed other major European leagues in average weekly attendance during the 2025-26 season, surpassing Spain’s La Liga, which averaged 30,945, and Italy’s Serie A, which averaged 30,084.
The average price of a Bundesliga matchday ticket, including value-added tax (VAT) and a public transport levy, was €30.77 ($33.60), slightly up from €28.78 in 2024-25. A seated ticket cost an average of €37.14, while a standing ticket cost just €12.27.
In Bundesliga 2, fans paid an average of €24.34, down slightly from €24.70 in 2024-25. A seated ticket cost €26.72, while a standing ticket averaged €13.20.
