Everything you need to know ahead of 2026/27 Premier Le…

The provisional dates of the Magpies’ 38 league games across the next campaign will be confirmed on newcastleunited.com and the Official Newcastle United App, while supporters can also sync to their calendars.

All fixtures are subject to change for television broadcast purposes.

Key dates

The 2026/27 Premier League season will kick off across the weekend of Saturday, 22nd August.

The campaign will comprise of 33 weekend rounds of matches and five midweek sets of games, with the season concluding with simultaneous matches played on Sunday, 30th May 2027 – a week before the Champions League final on Saturday, 5th June 2027.

Over the Christmas and New Year period, no two match rounds will take place within 60 hours. This is in keeping with commitments made to clubs to address the congested Christmas and New Year schedule within the expanded international calendar.

Home comforts

Newcastle have started with a home fixture in 11 of the last 14 Premier League seasons. Eddie Howe’s men kicked off the 2022/23 campaign with a 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest at St. James’ Park, then thrashed Aston Villa 5-1 on Tyneside the following year.

On the first day of 2024/25, despite being reduced to ten men early in the game, United beat Southampton 1-0 to get the campaign off to a strong start.

Last term, Newcastle began with a 0-0 draw at Aston Villa; their last opening day defeat came against the West Ham United at St. James’ Park at the beginning of the 2021/22 season.

Derby dates

Sunderland returned to the Premier League last season after a long absence and there will again be two Tyne-Wear derbies next term.

Hull City’s promotion from the Championship also makes for a relatively short trip for the travelling Toon Army in the months ahead.

Sky Blue thinking

Coventry romped to the Championship title last term, with the Sky Blues back in the top flight after a 25-year absence.

That means a first visit to the Coventry Building Society Arena for United since 9th December 2009, when both clubs were in the Championship. Newcastle won 2-0 that day thanks to goals from Shola Ameobi and Nile Ranger.
