Essentia Health pharmacy team collects emergency phones for Safe Haven

Lots of us don’t think twice about having a phone, but for some, having access to a phone can make a life changing difference.

Over the month of October the Essentia Health pharmacy team held a cell phone drive for survivors of domestic violence.

They were able to collect thirty phones which survivors could use to make emergency calls in critical situations or connect with the resources they need. Safe haven told us that donations of phones are critical.

“I’m so thrilled because we didn’t contact Essentia Health to do this. They basically did it themselves and then brought it to us. I think it’s amazing,” said Safe Haven community engagement coordinator Brittany Lind. “I think it’s also a really easy way for folks to be able to help survivors. It’s not something you have to purchase, it’s something you have, it’s something that you probably consider garbage, but it honestly could save a life.”

Brittany Lind told us that you can bring old cell phones working or not to the Safe Haven resource center Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Safe haven sends the phones to a company that refurbishes them. For each phone Safe Haven sends they get an emergency phone back.
