Elon Musk confirms he got into politics because of trans daughter

Elon Musk has confirmed he only got into politics because of his estranged daughter, trans icon Vivian Wilson.

Wilson herself had previously said that Musk’s turn towards the right was “not because of [her].”

“It’s such a convenient narrative, that the reason he turned right is because I’m a f****** t*****, and that’s just not the case. That’s not what that does to people,” she told Teen Vogue in 2025.

“Him going further on the right, and I’m going to use the word ‘further’ — make sure you put ‘further’ in there — is not because of me. That’s insane.”

However, the right-wing tech billionaire recently implied via his X account that Wilson being trans did play a part in him entering politics.

On 31 May, another X user quoted a post about Wilson joining a Pride campaign for Rihanna’s SAVAGE X FENTY lingerie brand.

“We should never forget that if not for Vivian, Elon Musk never would have gotten involved, never would have purchased Twitter, Kamala Harris would be President and the Left-wing would have total instrumental control over the construction of Skynet,” the post read.

Musk replied to the post on 1 June, simply writing: “True.”

Musk’s political career was short-lived. He had become friendly with US president Donald Trump during his 2024 election campaign, for which Musk was a big financial donor.

Musk then took up the role of head of DOGE, or the Department of Government Efficiency, when Trump came into office in January 2025.

However, he only remained in the post for a few months. Tensions between the pair seemed to rise in March 2025, when the president limited Musk’s authority, and he had left the White House completely by May.

Wilson recently spoke out about the importance of lifting up queer voices while the US is under the Trump administration and experiencing attacks on LGBTQ+ rights.

She shared her thoughts in an interview with Out on 29 May. “As queer people, we’re always screaming into this void that we’re not these demons you think we are,” she said.

“It’s exhausting, but it’s incredibly important to lift up the queer community. We can’t stop screaming. Queer progress has gotten better and now it’s getting worse. Especially in these political times, it’s important to showcase queer joy.”
