Avengers: Doomsday could be one of Marvel Studios‘ biggest films to date, with the Russo brothers returning to direct the next Avengers film. A massive lineup of MCU and X-Men characters are attached to the project. But Ms. Marvel star Iman Vellani believes that the success should not only be measured by the massive cast and multiverse storyline.
On the Revenge Of podcast, Vellani shared her thoughts on the upcoming MCU project and what she hopes Avengers: Doomsday achieves as a Marvel story. She said, “I’m such a sucker for simple stories. I think universe-ending stakes are exciting and they’re fun, but you’ve got to build up to that, and you’ve got to earn it. I think Marvel is doing a great job at what they have. The source material they’re adapting is really smart. Those books are a guaranteed good read — if Doomsday makes anyone go back and read Hickman’s run, I think that’s such a success on their part.”
Is Iman Vellani going to appear as Ms. Marvel in Avengers: Doomsday?
Vellani has not been officially confirmed by Marvel Studios as part of the Avengers: Doomsday cast. However, rumors surrounding her potential return as Kamala Khan have continued to grow. In April, actor Andy Serkis appeared to tease Vellani’s possible involvement in the movie during an interview. He said, “I’m excited to see you in Doomsday.” Both laughed, and Vellani replied, “No, you can’t say that.”
Her comments neither deny nor directly confirm her involvement in the film. However, on Revenge of Comics, she talked about Ms. Marvel and what she would want for her character in the future. She said, “They’ve been trying to bring her in to the, the X-Men for so long and the comics now and, and I, you know, I think that’s fun and I love seeing her interact with any other superhero. But I just love her own world, and I love her own cast of characters and like the personality and the way like Kamala sees the world.”
For now, Marvel has yet to confirm whether Vellani will return as Ms. Marvel in Avengers: Doomsday. However, her comments make it clear that she wants Kamala’s future in the MCU to retain the character’s individuality and qualities that made her popular at first. Whether she appears on Doomsday or not, fans can continue to look forward to Ms. Marvel’s return in the MCU.
