Donald Glover Returns for Mr. & Mrs. Smith Season 2, But Not How You Think

The upcoming Mr. & Mrs. Smith Season 2 just got some big news, with Donald Glover revealed to be returning in a special way.

How is Donald Glover returning to Mr. & Mrs. Smith Season 2?

According to a new report from Deadline, Glover will be returning to the series he co-created, and will direct “multiple episodes” in the second season of the show. Alongside that news, Deadline also reports that Francesca Scorsese, daughter to legendary filmmaker Martin Scorsese, has also been cast in the show. She’ll play the role of one of the Jane Smiths, although her “Mr. Smith” counterpart has yet to be revealed.

Much of Season 2 of the show is being kept under wraps. Deadline’s report notes that both Glover and Maya Erskine, who starred in the first season, are “believed” to be reprising their roles for the show, although it’s unclear how given the show’s cliffhanger ending in Season 1. Whether or not they’ll appear in a longterm role or simply just show up for an episode is unknown as of now.

They’ll be joined by the previously reported Mark Eydelshteyn and Talia Ryder, who will play another pair of Mr. and Mrs. Smiths. Ryder joined the show as a replacement for Sophie Thatcher, who was previously in talks to star in the series. Development of the second season has been ongoing since 2024, and was postponed in 2025 after showrunner Francesca Sloane left and was replaced by Anna Ouyang Moench.

Mr. & Mrs. Smith, which is inspired by the 2005 film of the same name, premiered on Prime Video in February 2024. The first season of the show starred Donald Glover as John Smith/Michael and Maya Erskine as Jane Smith/Alana, two undercover spies who must pose as a married couple.
