China’s exports to the EU surged in May. This affects the European automotive and machinery industries as well. There are also early signs of trade diversion caused by US tariffs, as exports of laptops, smartphones, batteries and solar panels are climbing. Overall, the EU’s trade deficit with China grew by 22 percent in May year-on-year.
