China Powers a Spectacular Tourism Gateway as Hong Kong Express Launches Daily Flights into the Majestic East

A significant boost has been delivered to regional tourism through the launch of Hong Kong–Wuxi flights, with a new Hong Kong Express service now linking Hong Kong International Airport and Wuxi Shuofang Airport every day. Greater access to Wuxi tourism, the wider Yangtze River Delta and the historic landscapes of Jiangnan has consequently been created for leisure travellers.

The direct route was launched on 17 July 2026. A journey of approximately two and a half hours has been provided between the two cities, allowing Wuxi to be considered more easily for short holidays, cultural tours and multi-city itineraries. At the same time, Hong Kong has been further strengthened as a convenient departure point for travel into eastern China.

Wuxi Has Been Opened to More Short-Break Travellers

Wuxi has long been recognised as one of the most attractive urban destinations in southern Jiangsu. The city has been positioned beside Taihu, also known as Lake Tai, while the Yangtze River is located to its north. The Beijing–Hangzhou Grand Canal is also carried through the city, giving the destination an important place within the cultural and commercial history of eastern China.

Because the direct flight takes just over two and a half hours, Wuxi can now be considered for a weekend break or a compact cultural holiday from Hong Kong. A lengthy overland journey does not have to be planned, and more time can be devoted to sightseeing, dining and lakeside recreation.

The destination has often been called the Pearl of Taihu Lake because of its relationship with one of China’s largest freshwater lakes. Scenic waterfronts, traditional gardens, historic streets and modern districts have been brought together within the city. A journey can therefore be shaped around several experiences without extensive transfers being required.

The tourism value of Wuxi has also been supported by its association with Jiangnan culture and Wu culture. Historic neighbourhoods, waterways and gardens have been preserved alongside contemporary commercial development. Through the new air connection, this combination has been made more accessible to travellers departing from Hong Kong.

Jiangnan Heritage Can Be Explored More Easily

A distinctive cultural landscape has been preserved across Jiangnan, a region generally associated with the area south of the lower reaches of the Yangtze River. Water towns, stone bridges, canals, gardens and traditional architecture have been widely connected with the region. Wuxi has been placed within this setting, while modern transport links have allowed nearby destinations to be added to the same itinerary.

Along the Grand Canal, historic streets and waterside scenery can be experienced. In the city gardens, carefully planned views, pavilions, rocks, ponds and planted spaces can be observed. Around Taihu, wider natural scenery can be enjoyed, and a slower style of travel can be followed.

Jiangnan cuisine has also been made an important part of the destination experience. Local dishes are generally associated with freshwater ingredients, seasonal produce and balanced flavours. Culinary exploration can therefore be included alongside cultural and scenic tourism.

By reducing the effort required to reach Wuxi, the route is expected to support shorter but more frequent visits. Independent travellers can be served, while packaged holidays and small-group itineraries can also be developed around the new connection.

Multi-City Tourism Is Expected to Receive a Stronger Push

The direct connection has been designed to provide more than a simple city-to-city journey. A broader travel corridor has been created between Hong Kong and the Yangtze River Delta, where several culturally and economically important destinations are located within reach of one another.

Open-jaw itineraries can be planned by flying into Wuxi and returning from Changzhou, Ningbo, Yiwu or another available point. Through this approach, unnecessary backtracking can be reduced. More destinations can be included while travel time is used efficiently.

The service may also support inbound travel to Hong Kong. Visitors from Wuxi and nearby areas can be provided with direct access to Hong Kong for shopping, dining, entertainment and onward international connections. Two-way tourism flows can therefore be encouraged rather than a one-directional leisure market being created.

Additional visitor spending may be generated for hotels, restaurants, transport providers, attractions and local retailers. Demand will still be influenced by fares, seasonal travel patterns and operating capacity, but a stronger foundation for tourism exchange has been established.

What Travellers Should Know Before Visiting Wuxi

Passengers should confirm that all travel documents and entry requirements have been satisfied before the journey is started. Requirements can vary according to nationality, residency status and the purpose of travel. Official immigration information should therefore be consulted before tickets and accommodation are finalised.

Wuxi experiences four distinct seasons. Hot and humid conditions are usually experienced during summer, while colder weather is felt during winter. Spring and autumn are often preferred for outdoor sightseeing, garden visits and walks beside Taihu. Weather forecasts should still be checked because rain and seasonal temperature changes can affect daily plans.

Local public transport, taxis and rail services can be used after arrival at Wuxi Shuofang Airport. High-speed rail connections can also be incorporated when nearby destinations are visited.

Sufficient time should be allowed for check-in, security and departure procedures at both airports. Online check-in availability and baggage acceptance times should be reviewed in advance. By completing these preparations, the advantages of the new direct service can be used more effectively.

A New Tourism Bridge Has Been Established

A practical new gateway has been opened between Hong Kong and Wuxi through the daily direct service. Faster access has been provided to Taihu, the Grand Canal and the broader cultural landscapes of Jiangnan. At the same time, stronger connectivity has been created across the Yangtze River Delta.

The route has been positioned to serve short holidays, regional tours, family visits and business travel. Its greatest tourism value may be found in the flexibility now being offered. Wuxi can be visited independently, or it can be combined with Suzhou, Shanghai, Changzhou and other surrounding destinations.

As schedules mature and passenger demand is measured, further adjustments may be introduced. For now, a major step has been taken towards easier, more affordable and more varied travel between Hong Kong and eastern China.
