BYD’s Fang Cheng Bao Formula S lineup started taking pre-orders in China

BYD’s Fang Cheng Bao (FCB) Formula S liftback and the Formula S GT station wagon started taking pre-orders in China a day ahead of the Chengdu Auto Show 2026. These two models will be priced between 230,000 and 280,000 yuan (34,175 – 41,610 USD).

FCB was initially launched in China as a hardcore off-road brand under the BYD umbrella. Its vehicles are currently sold overseas with Denza and BYD badges. According to China EV DataTracker, Fang Cheng Bao delivered 29,613 cars domestically in July 2026. Soon, this brand will expand its lineup with a sporty electric car series called “Formula S” to reach a wider customer group.

The Formula S line includes two vehicles. The first is the FCB Formula S sleek four-door liftback. It boasts hefty dimensions of 5060/1967/1483 mm with a wheelbase of 2,960 mm. Other highlights include teardrop-shaped headlamps, an active air intake, a LiDAR on the roof, semi-hidden door handles, and a sporty rear diffuser.

The FCB Formula S liftback comes standard with a 76.744 kWh LFP battery. It powers a single e-motor for 245 kW (329 hp). The car’s electric range is 720 km under CLTC conditions. The long-range variant of the Formula S offers a 92.093 kWh LFP pack and a 300 kW (402 hp) e-motor. Its range lies between 830 and 900 km CLTC, depending on equipment. The Formula S will also be available with a dual-motor AWD for 490 kW (657 hp).

The Formula S GT station wagon aligns with the Formula S liftback in terms of styling while offering a larger trunk and an electrically powered tow hook. This EV can tow 500 kg, which is a mediocre number. The S GT’s dimensions are 5025/1967/1483 mm. It comes standard with a 92.093 kWh LFP battery. The RWD variant with an e-motor for 300 kW has a range of 800 – 850 km (CLTC conditions). The all-wheel-drive variant with 490 kW can run up to 730 km on a charge.

Both vehicles share a similar interior with a large touchscreen in the dashboard. The car’s gear shifter sits behind the three-spoke double-D-shaped steering wheel. The center tunnel offers a wireless phone charger, a block of physical buttons, and a pair of cup holders. Other features of the interior include sporty front seats, an LCD instrument cluster, and a head-up display.

It is highly likely that the Formula S liftback and the Formula S GT wagon will reach overseas markets as a part of the Denza brand, as their exterior styling aligns with the Denza Z sports car that was previously introduced to the UK market at Goodwood.
