Brad Pitt is returning to the big screen with his heartfelt new survival movie about a man and his dog. The actor is all set to present Heart of the Beast at the San Sebastián Film Festival this year with director David Ayer.
Heart of the Beast has been added to the official lineup at the 74th San Sebastián International Film Festival, which will take place from September 18 to 26, 2026. The movie will screen out of competition.
Directed by Ayer, Heart of the Beast follows Pitt as Special Forces officer James Belmont and his retired combat dog Odin, who find themselves stranded in the unforgiving Alaskan wilderness after a plane crash. The pair must rely on each other to survive the harsh Alaskan wilderness.
The film marks Pitt’s first appearance at the Spanish film festival since 2009. He presented his movie Inglorious Basterds that year alongside director Quentin Tarantino. It also marks the 62-year-old actor’s first collaboration with Ayer since their 2014 WWII drama, Fury.
Heart of the Beast also stars J. K. Simmons and Anna Lambe, along with Uber as Odin the Dog. Additionally, Pitt produces the film alongside Ayer, Olivia Hamilton and Marty Bowen. Cameron Alexander wrote the movie.
Paramount will release Heart of the Beast in theaters on September 25.

The 2026 San Sebastián Film Festival has announced 17 films in its official competition lineup. These include acclaimed titles like Jesse Eisenberg’s The Debut, Mike Leigh’s Tender Loving Care, Fatih Akin’s Ghost Song, Hans Petter Moland’s Growth of the Soil, Pablo Larraín’s My Sad Dead, and many more.
Besides Ayer’s Heart of the Beast, the movies and shows screening out of competition are Elena Martín Gimeno and Sandra Romero’s El castillo (series) and Michaël R. Roskam’s Le Faux Soir. Additionally, five titles will receive Special Screenings at the festival.
