The first trailer for David Ayer‘s new thriller Heart of the Beast, starring Brad Pitt, is here. The film follows Pitt and a combat dog surviving the Alaskan wilderness.
The film’s synopsis reads, “After a harrowing plane crash, Special Forces officer James Belmont (Brad Pitt) and his combat dog, Odin, find themselves stranded deep in the Alaskan wilderness. Together, they are forced into a brutal fight for survival against the elements. From acclaimed filmmaker David Ayer, Heart of the Beast is an intense adventure thriller that explores the unbreakable bond between a man and his best friend as they face their greatest battle yet.”

What do we see in the Heart of the Beast trailer?
The trailer starts with Belmont comforting his combat dog, who, like him, is also suffering from PTSD. Belmont then discusses his past with J.K. Simmons’ character. Flashback scenes reveal that Odin was injured during combat, resulting in damage to his teeth and leg. Belmont reveals that he retaliated by killing the unnamed enemy. The trailer then shows Belmont and Odin crashing their seaplane as the former suffers from a panic attack.
Being the loyal companion he is, Odin saves Belmont’s life by dragging him away from the wreckage after the plane crashes into a lake. The final moments of the trailer show both of them fighting wolves at night. The trailer was previously shown to attendees at CinemaCon. Earlier this week, new first-look images of the film showed Pitt’s gritty new look in various locations across the Alaskan wilderness.
Besides Pitt, Heart of the Beast stars J.K. Simmons and Anna Lambe. The film is directed by David Ayer, from a screenplay written by Cameron Alexander. Pitt and Ayer also serve as producers alongside Marty Bowen and Olivia Hamilton. Additionally, Damien Chazelle, Scott Lumpkin, Cameron Alexander, Chris Long, Pete Chiappetta, Anthony Tittanegro, Andrew Lary, Sophie Cassidy, and Zack Conroy serve as executive producers.
Heart of the Beast releases on September 25, 2026.
