Billy Joel’s ex-wife Katie Lee Biegel claims Chevy Chase ‘wasn’t so nice’ when they met

Billy Joel’s ex-wife Katie Lee Biegel says she once had a less-than-friendly encounter with Chevy Chase.

The Food Network star recalled the awkward interaction on Thursday’s episode of her “All on the Table with Katie Lee Biegel” podcast after a listener asked about the nicest — and not so nice — celebrities she’s met over the years.

“My celebrity run-in that was not so nice was Chevy Chase,” Biegel said.

She explained that the incident took place during her marriage to the “Piano Man” singer, whom she wed in 2004 before the pair divorced in 2009.

Biegel claimed she and Joel hosted an “old-school keg party” at a house they planned to demolish after spending the summer there with friends.

“We decided to have a kind of tear-the-house-down party, keg party, and I had Jell-O shots, kegs. It was a very star-studded party,” she recalled.

Things took an awkward turn, however, when Chase apparently mistook her for a member of the catering staff.

“My ex-husband was standing talking to Chevy Chase and his wife and I had a tray of Jell-O shots,” Biegel explained. “And I went up with the tray of Jell-O shots and said, ‘Do you guys want a shot?’ and Chevy thought that I was the staff at the party.”

“And he took his hand and shooed me away,” she added.

A rep for Chase did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.

The “National Lampoon’s Vacation” star has long had a reputation for being difficult to work with, with former colleagues from projects like “Saturday Night Live” and “Community” publicly speaking about clashes with the actor over the years.

Fortunately, Biegel said not all of her celebrity encounters have been negative.

The TV personality shared that one of her favorite run-ins was with Jon Stewart while she was working at a fish market in Sag Harbor during the summer of 2003.

“He could not have been lovelier,” she said. “He was so nice. He was patient with me.”
