Barbie Ferreira and Devon Bostick head to Montreal in Netflix’s new music rom-com
Mile End Kicks has arrived on Netflix today, July 13, 2026. The coming-of-age musical rom-com is set in 2011 and follows Grace Pine (Ferreira), a 24-year-old music critic who heads to Montreal for the summer with plans to write a book about Alanis Morissette’s Jagged Little Pill. As the story progresses, that plan falls apart the moment she stumbles into the orbit of Bone Patrol, a scrappy local indie band, and takes on the job of being their publicist.
From there, things become complicated as she finds herself in a love triangle with two of the band’s members: guitarist Archie Webber (Bostick) and frontman Chevy Olsen (Stanley Simons). The film follows her attempt to hold onto her own identity while everyone around her tries to pull her in different directions.
Drawing from Chandler Levack’s own experiences as a music journalist, the film incorporates original songs by Montreal band TOPS along with live concert footage, reflecting the city’s indie music scene.
Since premiering at TIFF in 2025, Mile End Kicks has earned positive reviews for Levack’s storytelling and the chemistry between its main characters. As of writing, the film has an 86% Tomatometer score and a 60% Popcornmeter score on Rotten Tomatoes. Despite the positive reviews, the film grossed $679,591 against a reported $4 million budget during its 2026 Canadian theatrical run, distributed by Entract Films and Elevation Pictures.
Apart from Ferreira and Bostick, the musical rom-com also stars Stanley Simons, Juliette Gariépy, Isaiah Lehtinen, Robert Naylor, Jay Baruchel and more in supporting roles.
