Adam Sandler sought an “assist” from the Nantucket Police Department roughly 48 hours after officiating Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce‘s New York City wedding.
Shortly after arriving in New Hampshire for the July Fourth weekend, on Sunday, two days after Swift and Kelce’s wedding, the “Happy Gilmore” actor, 59, contacted local authorities to ask where he might find a pickup basketball game, public safety dispatcher Chris Reynolds told the Nantucket Current.
“Sandler said, ‘Hey, I’m here on your island and I like to play basketball. Can you tell me where there’s a basketball court I could play on?'” Reynolds said, the local outlet reported.
Joining some teenagers playing ball at a court off Backus Lane, Sandler stayed for a quick game and then posed for pictures with the group.
“Adam Sandler rolled in a car and started playing pickups with the boys. He’s like, ‘Guys, let me stretch I’m going to hop in,'” Andrew Kesler, one of the teens who played with Sandler, told the Current.
Kesler continued: “Great passing and playmaking, decent lay-ups, hesitated to shoot the ball.”
Sandler’s love of the game is nothing new, as the “Grown Ups” actor has been spotted hooping at numerous basketball courts over the years, including in the sweltering heat, hours before officiating Swift and Kelce’s ceremony at Madison Square Garden on July 3, Entertainment Weekly and People reported.
Why Adam Sandler officiated the Taylor Swift, Travis Kelce wedding
Sandler was among the parade of celebrities, musicians, and sports figures who endured the brutal heat to attend the lavish but intimate nuptials at Madison Square Garden. The actor-comedian arguably played a more pivotal role in getting the ceremony off the ground.
Sandler also extended some advice to the happy couple, telling them to “keep kissing,” Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid recounted to Deseret News.
“So, in its simplest form, that’s a good thing,” Reid continued. “It’s hard to argue when you give your wife a kiss, or your wife gives you a kiss. And make sure you do it every day, every minute that you have an opportunity to do it. Knock it out, and you won’t have problems.”
Swift, Kelce have been friends with Sandler for years
While seemingly an unconventional choice, Sandler and the couple have been in each other’s orbit for several years.
Swift has become good friends with Sandler’s teen daughters, Sunny and Sadie, and with his wife, Jackie. At a 2023 screening of Swift’s concert documentary, “The Eras Tour,” the singer stopped by Sandler’s row and chatted with the girls for a few minutes.
The Swift-Sandler friendship extended to Kelce, who revisited his acting chops with an appearance in last year’s “Happy Gilmore 2,” the sequel to the 1996 breakout comedy for Sandler.
Kelce played a bully of a restaurant manager who fires a busboy (played by Bad Bunny). The busboy, Oscar, fantasizes about slathering honey over Kelce’s bared chest as he is tied to a pole, leaving him to be eaten by a bear.
