Milan have agreed a club-record fee to sign Paris Saint-Germain and Portugal international striker Goncalo Ramos.
In a show of Milan’s ambition, it is the most expensive transfer in Serie A since Inter bought Romelu Lukaku from Man United for €74million in 2019 and eclipses the fee paid to Lille for Rafael Leao in 2019.
Milan have beaten competition from some of Europe’s elite for the 25-year-old with owner Gerry Cardinale’s relationship with PSG chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi proving pivotal.
Ramos will become the first signing of the Ruben Amorim era at AC Milan. Amorim knows the player personally and Ramos was his preferred option for the problem position of No.9 at Milan.
The player’s desire to play for the former Manchester United head coach was another factor in the speed of negotiations.
Ramos completed a medical while on World Cup duty with Portugal in Florida where he is preparing for his country’s final group-stage game against Colombia in Miami on Saturday.
He has featured once at the tournament so far, coming on in the final stages of the opening draw with DR Congo on June 17.
The news comes on the day Milan announced their new CEO, Massimo Calvelli as part of a comprehensive restructuring of the top of the club this summer.
