The Matildas have selected three debutants for the squad set to face powerhouse Germany and Haiti in international friendlies next month.
Uncapped trio Tori Tumeth, Courtney Newbon and Hana Lowry are in the 26-player squad after being called up for the first time as Australia prepare to meet world number three Germany (October 10 AEST) and Haiti (October 14 AEST) in Europe.
Defender Tumeth and Newbon – the reigning A-League Women Goalkeeper of the Year – have been recognised for their form for the Northern Super League’s Vancouver Rise and Melbourne Victory respectively, while Valerenga midfielder Lowry has also been rewarded having previously been selected in 2024 before an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury ruled her out just days before linking up with the national team.
In-form trio Charli Grant (Malmo FF), Alexia Apostolakis (Bristol City) and Daniela Galic (Vittsjo GIK) have also earned re-calls, while Alanna Kennedy and Charlize Rule are unavailable due to injury, as Arsenal midfielder Kyra Cooney-Cross is not involved amid her return to football.
“We’re really pleased with the squad we’ve selected for this window and the balance it gives us across the group,” Matildas head coach Joe Montemurro said.
“We have a good mix of experience, players returning to the squad, and players earning their first senior call-ups, which is important as we build towards the Women’s World Cup.
“With limited windows left, every match is an important part of our preparation. We want to use these games to strengthen our connections, build confidence and continue developing as a team.
“The two matches will offer us very different challenges. Germany will test us against one of Europe’s leading teams, while Haiti will provide a different style and perspective. Both will be valuable as we continue to prepare for the FIFA Women’s World Cup.”
