Commercial equipment service company Smart Care is consolidating five regional coffee and speed-oven service businesses under a single national brand called Turbo Tech.

The new brand incorporates Turbo Technicians, EspressoMe, Dutton, Espresso Partners and VP Coffee, bringing together businesses Smart Care accumulated through a years-long acquisition strategy.

Turbo Tech will provide installation, repair and maintenance services for espresso machines, coffee brewers, grinders, water filtration systems and other commercial coffee equipment, as well as speed ovens.

Smart Care CEO James Mylett told Daily Coffee News that the consolidation brings all the company’s coffee-focused service operations under one identity.

“The service industry serving this sub-segment of the food equipment business is hyper-fragmented and our own history of brand acquisition in the coffee space reflected that,” Mylett told DCN. “We have maintained unmatched scale with our self-perform service model and that was not reflected in our historical multi-brand strategy.”

Smart Care currently employs more than 1,500 technicians nationwide. Mylett said Turbo Tech represents about 15% of Smart Care’s business and has direct coverage in most large U.S. cities, with the ability to cover most second-tier markets.

With the Turbo Tech brand launch, Smart Care also introduced Turbo Tech One, a flat-rate pricing program for service of speed ovens. Service for coffee equipment will continue to be priced on a time-and-material basis, Mylett said.

Smart Care’s coffee service footprint was assembled largely through acquisitions of regional specialists.

The company acquired Texas-based Turbo Technicians, originally focused on TurboChef speed ovens, after the service company had begun expanding into coffee equipment.

In 2021, Smart Care acquired Oregon-based PureMist, including its Espresso Me Service division, along with North Carolina-based VP Coffee. The latter specialized in sales, installation and service for espresso machines, brewers, grinders, water systems and other commercial coffee equipment.

The following year, Smart Care acquired Virginia-based Dutton Food Equipment Repair and Minneapolis-based Espresso Partners

Smart Care itself has been a portfolio company of Chicago private equity firm Wind Point Partners since 2022.

“Our scale allows us to bring best in class technology solutions to our technician team and those solutions are what contributes to a best in class first time fix rate,” Mylett said. “Said another way, our scale puts us in a better position to help our customers never stop serving.”
