AMD stock surged after CFO Jean Hu outlined an enormous long-term AI opportunity, although supply constraints and key technical resistance could limit the next leg higher.
AMD Sees $2 Trillion AI Opportunity, but From Who
AMD estimates its AI-related opportunity could reach approximately $2 trillion by 2030, reflecting rapidly expanding adoption across computing markets.
The company expects its data-center business to double in 2027 and reach approximately $70 billion in sales.
Strong demand for AI infrastructure remains a major growth driver, although AMD acknowledged that supply constraints continue to affect the industry.
AMD is also increasing its involvement in AI infrastructure. The company backed a $300 million loan for AI infrastructure startup Crusoe, highlighting the growing capital requirements surrounding data-center expansion.
AMD Stock Surges on AI Growth Outlook
Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) stock jumped on Wednesday after CFO Jean Hu delivered an optimistic long-term growth outlook at Citi’s 2026 Global TMT Conference.
Hu highlighted AMD’s expanding opportunity in artificial intelligence, with demand strengthening across GPUs, server CPUs and system-level AI products. The bullish outlook comes despite a mixed broader market, with the Nasdaq and S&P 500 both trading lower.
AI Regulation Remains a Debate
AMD’s bullish outlook comes as Washington continues debating how aggressively the AI industry should be regulated.
Senator Bernie Sanders has argued that Congress is not doing enough to regulate AI, while highlighting the hundreds of millions of dollars being spent by the industry on political campaigns.
Meanwhile, former White House AI adviser Sriram Krishnan said the Trump administration will not establish a centralized AI licensing agency.
The regulatory debate remains an important issue for the technology sector as investment in AI infrastructure accelerates.
AMD Stock Faces $530 Resistance
Technically, AMD remains in a strong longer-term uptrend. The stock is trading well above its 200-day moving average near $343.86, while also remaining above its 20-day, 50-day and 100-day averages.
However, the shorter-term trend is less convincing. The 20-day moving average remains below the 50-day average, indicating that AMD is still digesting its previous rally.
The $530 level represents the next major resistance area. A decisive break above it could strengthen the bullish setup, while failure to clear the level could trigger another pullback.
On the downside, $463 represents an important support zone and recent pivot area.
Citi Maintains $575 Price Target
Wall Street remains bullish on AMD, with Citi maintaining its Buy rating and $575 price target.
With shares trading around $505, the target implies roughly 14% upside.
For now, AMD’s expanding AI opportunity and expected data-center growth provide strong fundamental support. However, the stock still needs to overcome resistance around $530 while investors monitor supply constraints and the sustainability of its rapid AI expansion.
