He poisoned his teammate, German police arrested him a year later – Charm

A footballer for the German club TuS Rockenberg, 35-year-old Marius V., has been arrested on suspicion of being responsible for the death of teammate Philipp L. (30), who died after being poisoned during a team trip last year, Spanish outlet Marca reported.

Filip L. fell ill during the trip on June 13, 2025, and his health deteriorated upon his return home. He died the following day in hospital, despite attempts at resuscitation.

According to German media, the cause of death was sepsis with multiple organ failure, caused by poisoning.

The investigation initially considered the possibility of food poisoning, given that the crew had eaten fish during the voyage. Investigators later turned their attention to Marius V.

“We assume that the motive was revenge. Murders by poisoning are extremely rare, which is why this case is particularly unusual. Based on the results of the investigation so far, we are convinced that the suspect intentionally killed the victim,” Chief Prosecutor Thomas Hauburger told Bild.

The prosecution has not yet announced what poison was used or how it reached the victim, stating that this is information that is not publicly available.

Local media reports that there have been claims about a previous conflict between the two football players over a woman, but this information has not yet been officially confirmed.

Marius V. was arrested in a special police operation two weeks before his wedding.
