Hong Kong will stage a 23-minute fireworks display over Victoria Harbour on China’s National Day on October 1 under the theme “Eternal Radiance”.
The HK$18 million (US$2.3 million) extravaganza, exclusively sponsored by insurance provider Sun Life Hong Kong, will mark the 77th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.
Coordinated by the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau, the show will launch 31,888 pyrotechnic shells from nine firing points across three barges and six floating pontoons at 8pm.
“The display not only celebrates our nation’s achievements but also reflects our heartfelt wishes for Hong Kong’s continued prosperity and success,” Sun Life Hong Kong chief executive Clement Lam Ka-yin said.
“Through our support for this iconic annual event, we hope to bring people together, share the joy of the occasion and showcase Hong Kong’s vibrancy and unique appeal as a world-class international city.”
Fireworks designer Wilson Mao Wai-shing, head of Pyromagic Multi-Media Production, said the display – titled “Eternal Radiance: Fireworks in Bloom, Illuminating our Country” – would unfold in eight scenes.
