Latest Wolverine casting rumor could confuse fans
A new rumor claims Marvel Studios is casting a new actor as Wolverine, but the character may not appear in the upcoming X-Men movie. Scooper MyTimeToShineHello wrote that Marvel is “casting the MCU Wolverine but NOT for what you think,” without identifying the project involved. The claim has led to speculation that Wolverine could instead debut in Avengers: Secret Wars or a standalone film planned for Phase 7.
The possibility of Wolverine sitting out the X-Men reboot follows another recent rumor about the film’s lineup. According to the X account, DoomsServant, Beast, Angel, and Jubilee are expected to appear, while Kitty Pryde and Iceman are considered uncertain. The report also claimed that Gambit, Polaris, Wolverine, and Colossus are not expected to appear in the movie.
Marvel Studios has yet to confirm the Wolverine casting claim or the reported X-Men lineup. At the 2026 D23 event, the studio announced Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, Kit Connor as Scott Summers, Christopher Abbott as Professor Charles Xavier, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, Inde Navarrette as Rogue, and Maya Boyd as Storm. Adam Driver was also announced as Nathaniel Milbury, but Wolverine was not included among the revealed roles.
Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has hinted that additional casting announcements are still expected. For now, the studio has not confirmed who will play Wolverine or whether the character will appear in X-Men, Secret Wars, or another MCU project.
Jake Schreier is directing the X-Men movie, with Lee Sung Jin, Joanna Calo, and Michael Lesslie serving as writers. The film is scheduled to arrive in theaters on May 5, 2028.
