A Hong Kong magistrate has acquitted a former auxiliary police officer of assaulting his wife at their home last year, citing inconsistencies in her testimony about his alleged attack after he refused to care for their baby.
Magistrate Claudia Ng Cheuk-hwa on Thursday found Adnan Mohammad not guilty of one count of common assault.
Mohammad’s wife, Shazia Parveen, told the court that he had hit her arms and pushed her onto a sofa during an argument over childcare at their Wong Tai Sin flat on July 20, 2025.
Parveen said she had asked her husband to care for their crying baby, but he had refused. She initially testified that nobody else was in the flat at the time of the alleged assault, but later admitted that Mohammad’s brother had been sleeping there.
Ng said Parveen had given contradictory evidence and had not told the “whole truth”.
Parveen also said the couple’s marriage had been arranged. She came to Hong Kong from Pakistan in 2024, two years after they had married.
