The president of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige, has spoken on whether Avengers: Doomsday will avoid a box office clash with Dune: Part 3. Both highly anticipated movies are currently slated to release on the same day later this year.
What did Kevin Feige say about Avengers: Doomsday’s release date?
Helmed by Denis Villeneuve, Dune: Part 3 recently shared a brand new poster while reconfirming that it will arrive on December 18, 2026. It also happens to be the release date for the MCU’s Avengers: Doomsday, directed by Joe and Anthony Russo.
As a result of this potential epic box office battle, the term Dunesday has become a trending buzzword among movie fans on social media. However, there are also concerns regarding whether the same release date would affect the earnings for these two big-budget titles.
Meanwhile, it appears Marvel’s team has no plans to change the release date for Doomsday’s theatrical debut. Kevin Feige has now provided much-needed clarity over this matter, clearing all doubts.
During a recent interaction with Josh Horowitz on an episode of the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Feige shared a crystal clear response when asked, “Doomsday sticking to its release date?”
The Chief Creative Officer of Marvel simply answered, “Yes, definitely.”
In other words, movie fans are in for a big showdown at the box office. This inevitable clash will also remind many of 2023’s Barbenheimer phenomenon. It saw Greta Gerwig’s Barbie and Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer release on the same day, on July 21. Surprisingly, the clash ended up benefiting the two movies, as both enjoyed solid footfall.
Lately, the hype for Dunesday has also increased, with many renowned Hollywood celebrities even showing their excitement. A few months back, Rebecca Ferguson, who plays a crucial role in Dune: Part 3, said, “It just feels like another Barbenheimer moment which like two amazing films get people excited.”
Avengers: Doomsday will feature an ensemble cast, led by Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, and Chris Hemsworth. Other key members include Vanessa Kirby, Letitia Wright, Pedro Pascal, Florence Pugh, Kelsey Grammer, Tom Hiddleston, Kathryn Newton, Danny Ramirez, Winston Duke, Alan Cumming, and Simu Liu, among others.
