After Germany’s World Cup exit, captain Joshua Kimmich gave an honest assessment of the current situation of the German national team and acknowledged that the responsibility lies with the players.
In a postgame interview for MagentaTV (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), the Bayern Munich midfielder expressed his disappointment with the result and not having been able to show a good performance for the German fans. “We’re playing here to make Germany proud,” Kimmich said. “As a kid, I’ve always watched Germany reach semifinals and finals. We couldn’t give that to the people watching at home.”
Kimmich refused to shift the blame to external factors, putting the blame on himself and his teammates. “We, the players on the pitch, messed up and we assume the responsibility. It wasn’t the coach, it wasn’t the media, it wasn’t the referee, it wasn’t the opponent. It was just us,” he declared.
Kimmich is understandably disappointed by this adverse result, and he will be surely eager to have a last chance of achieving international glory in the next World Cup where he will be 35 years-old.
