Jackass: Best and Last is officially out in theaters now. Before seeing it, there are a few things audiences might want to know about the final entry in the iconic franchise.
The latest entry in the long-running franchise once again sees members Johnny Knoxville, Steve-O, Chris Pontius, Wee Man, Preston Lacy, Dave England, and Danger Ehren, along with Poopies, Zach Holmes, Jasper Dolphin, and Rachel Wolfson, all back for more antics.
“Johnny Knoxville and the gang return for one final fling at the big screen. Featuring all-new stunts and stupidity along with the greatest hits and biggest laughs from the past, jackass: best and last is a joyously raucous celebration of all the mischievous camaraderie that you’ve come to love and expect from these idiots over the past 25 years. So, grab your dumb little buddies, raise your glasses, and come experience the cinematic event that promises to be the last time you’ll ever laugh this hard in a theatre,” reads the film’s official synopsis.
What should Jackass: Best and Last audiences know about the movie beforehand?
The biggest thing to know about the new Jackass movie is that, despite being “new,” the movie is largely a retrospective on the history of the iconic franchise. As a result, there’s not a ton of new skits and pranks in it. Most early reactions to the movie note that the movie is largely comprised of archival footage and spends time with the cast as they look back on how much they’ve grown since then.
This tracks with news that the movie was reportedly filmed in February of this year, so it doesn’t sound like there’s much new content in the film at all. According to Steve-O in an interview with Playboy, the reason for this has not only to do with the crew’s age, but also the fact that the movie has footage from the past that has never been allowed to be shown.
“What made this movie happen was this lump sum of footage that had never been allowed to be shown anywhere. I genuinely don’t know why it’s allowed now, but it’s in there,” said Steve-O. “That’s what this movie is: finding a home for such f*cked-up shit that never had a home, and one last hurrah of all of us getting together and doing whatever we have in us to do.”
Steve-O also confirmed that this would be the final Jackass movie and harkened back to Johnny Knoxville’s infamous stunt with a bull in Jackass Forever as the moment they knew things had to end. The stunt saw Knoxville thrown in the air by a bull and severely injured, and doctors advised him to cease taking anymore hits to the head.
