The last film in the original series, directed by Paul W.S. Anderson, Milla Jovovich’s husband, premiered in the United States on January 27, 2017. It grossed approximately $312.2 million at the box office. Accordingly, it is the highest-grossing among the initial entries. Here are the estimated worldwide grosses of the other five installments:

  • Resident Evil: Retribution (2012): $240 million
  • Resident Evil: Extinction (2007): $147 million
  • Resident Evil: Apocalypse (2004): $129 million

This is reflected in its scores on Rotten Tomatoes, where it shows a 39% rotten rating and a mediocre audience score of 47%. Meanwhile, Metacritic has assigned it a Metascore of 49 and a user score of 5.1, both of which indicate “mixed or average” reception.
