HK Express cancels 6 Hong Kong-Okinawa flights as Typhoon Jangmi approaches

Budget carrier HK Express has cancelled six flights operating between Hong Kong and Okinawa on Monday and Tuesday as Typhoon Jangmi approaches Japan’s southernmost islands.

The airline said in an updated announcement on Saturday afternoon that special ticket arrangements for typhoon-affected flights were in place.

“We have notified all affected passengers of the flight changes and are providing the necessary help to enable them to make alternative travel arrangements in advance,” the airline said.

Flights UO844, UO845, UO824 and UO825 are cancelled on Monday, while UO842 and UO843 are cancelled on Tuesday.

The airline added that because of unstable weather, passengers travelling between Hong Kong and Okinawa from Monday to Wednesday should monitor their emails and check the flight status page to stay informed of any potential changes to their itineraries.

According to Hong Kong’s forecaster on Sunday noon, Typhoon Jangmi was centred about 530km (329 miles) south of Okinawa, and is expected to move across the region of Ryukyu Islands in the next few days.
