A man has died after being struck and trapped beneath a taxi in Tung Chung, marking Hong Kong’s second fatal crash involving a cab in less than a week.
The taxi driver was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving causing death after his vehicle collided with the pedestrian, believed to be aged between 60 and 70.
Police received a report at 6.23am on Monday of the crash at the junction of Man Tung Road and Kin Tung Road, near the Caribbean Coast residential estate.
A source said the pedestrian was crossing the road beneath a footbridge when he was hit by the taxi and subsequently became trapped under the vehicle.

According to photos from the scene, the front of the taxi was dented, with the vehicle stopping near a pedestrian crossing.
