Hong Kong’s MTR Corporation extended the time needed for its in-town check-in service to 120 minutes from 90 minutes on Sunday evening, after a signalling equipment malfunction disrupted travel on the Airport Express and Tung Chung lines
The rail operator said at 7.10pm that a signalling fault near a depot at Siu Ho Wan on Lantau Island had affected MTR train services on both lines and caused delays of about eight to 10 minutes.
It added that engineers were working to repair the fault.
At around 8pm, the firm announced that the fault was fixed and that all services were gradually restored.
Passengers heading to Hong Kong International Airport were earlier advised to allow extra time for commuting, with the MTR Corp asking those using in-town check-in services to provide for more time.
