A doctor who posted a photo of a resuscitation procedure in a Hong Kong public hospital is no longer employed by the Hospital Authority, following an outcry over patient privacy and professional ethics.

The authority’s Kowloon West Cluster confirmed on Monday the doctor’s departure but did not say whether he had resigned or been dismissed.

“The cluster had previously conducted a serious investigation and a comprehensive review of the incident. It confirmed that the individual involved is no longer an employee of the Hospital Authority,” a spokesman said.

“The cluster consistently attaches the utmost importance to protecting patient privacy, reiterating that all staff members must strictly abide by relevant regulations to ensure that patient privacy remains inviolable, and no form of misconduct will be tolerated.”

The authority’s statement came after media reports said that Jenson So, a doctor with the Kowloon West Cluster and a former contestant on ViuTV’s reality show King Maker III, had been removed from the hospital’s internal WhatsApp groups and not included in next month’s duty roster.

So sparked a social media outcry last month after posting an Instagram story showing himself performing a resuscitation in what appeared to be a public hospital ward. The image, which went viral, showed him holding medical equipment alongside the caption: “A rarely seen cardioversion – everyone has come to watch me deliver the electric shock.”
