The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government on Monday raised its Outbound Travel Alert (OTA) for Iran and Israel to black, the highest level, amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.
The HKSAR government also issued an amber alert for Bahrain, Jordan, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, advising residents to stay alert, monitor the latest security updates, and heed local government and consular advisories.
An HKSAR government spokesperson said the black alert indicates a “severe threat”, urging Hong Kong residents to avoid all travel to Iran and Israel. Those currently in the two countries are advised to pay close attention to personal safety and consider leaving or relocating to safer areas.
Authorities said they will continue to monitor regional developments and issue updates through the media, the bureau’s mobile app, and the OTA website.
Travelers are encouraged to register their contact details and itineraries on the government’s website to receive timely updates in case of emergencies.
