I had a few errands to run Sunday morning, and didn’t have time to eat a healthy breakfast before I left the house. Once I made my first appointment, I realized I had about 30 minutes before the next one… so I sat in my car and started thinking:
What can I eat right now that won’t completely derail my day?
STAYING ON TRACK- ISN’T THAT ALWAYS THE GOAL
Since I’ve recently lost a significant amount of weight, I’ve been really intentional about my choices. I knew if I grabbed the wrong thing, it could easily turn into one of those days where you just keep eating junk because… well… you already started.

WHAT DO YOU DO IN A PINCH?
So I did what a lot of us do. I pulled out my phone and started searching for fast food breakfasts that aren’t actually terrible for you.
And honestly? There are a few decent options out there if you’re in a pinch. Here are some smarter fast-food breakfast choices that won’t completely wreck your progress.
EGG MCMUFFIN (MCDONALDS)
Yes. It’s simple. It has protein and comes in around 300 calories. Not bad if you skip the hashbrowns.
DUNKIN’ HAS AN OPTION?
I found something called the ‘Bacon, Egg & Cheese Wake-Up Wrap.’ Why does this work? It’s a smaller portion, still satisfying, and keeps calories in check compared to bigger sandwiches.
STARBUCKS FOR EGG BITES
These delicious little egg bites are actually packed with protein and feel a little more “real food” than typical drive-thru options.
Small Breakfast Burritos
There are plenty of convenience stores around that have a variety of breakfast food options. Instead of grabbing a big donut or blueberry muffin (Oh yeah… I see them screaming at you), look for a small breakfast burrito. Look for one with eggs, a little meat, and not overloaded with cheese or sauces.
Oatmeal
Yes. Honestly. You can find oatmeal parfaits or just plain oatmeal at many chain fast-food locations. You have to look past the big, attractive photos of the 1800-calorie options to somewhere on the ‘side’ menu. It’s there.
THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND
Here’s the biggest thing I realized sitting in that parking lot. It’s not about being perfect. It’s about making a better choice. I found myself in a situation where I really needed something that was going to give me energy to move through the morning.
Sometimes Life gets busy. Mornings get hectic. Things happen. But choosing something…anything with protein instead of something sugary and fatty, or greasy and loaded with empty calories, can completely change how the rest of your day goes.
AVOIDING THE MORNING CRASH
A sugar crash in the morning is such a drag, and once it happens, it’s hard to recover. So set yourself up for a good day. Choose intentionally. Think it through before you jump in and eat something that doesn’t serve you well. You’re way less likely to make bad choices the rest of the day if you can get control of your day early on.
JUST SO YOU KNOW
I decided to have a bacon, egg, and cheese with 1/2 biscuit from McDonald’s, and it was delicious.
There really is no right or wrong, so don’t beat yourself up if you didn’t make the best decision. Just do better next time.
