61 million passenger trips at Hong Kong airport in 2025, up 15% year on year

Passenger trips at the Hong Kong International Airport reached 61 million in 2025, marking a 15 per cent year-on-year increase, after a full year of operation with the facility’s third runway.

The Airport Authority said on Thursday that the strong figures came on the back of a busy Christmas season, which saw over 200,000 daily passenger trips over eight days in December. Cargo throughput for the year also rose by 2.7 per cent to 5.07 million tonnes.

“The strong traffic performance in 2025 marks a new milestone, securing our position as the leading international aviation hub in Asia,” the authority’s CEO Vivian Cheung Kar-fay said, adding that the authority had won 80 awards last year.

“During the year, we also further strengthened connectivity by introducing 30 new destinations across the globe, including Abu Dhabi, Brussels and Dallas, while increasing flight frequencies on major routes,” she said.

Flight movements in 2025 rose by 8.7 per cent compared with the previous year, reaching 394,730, with the authority highlighting how the launch of the Terminal 2 coach hall and the “Park and Fly” service facilitated smoother transport for passengers in the Greater Bay Area.

According to the authority, in December alone, the airport handled 5.8 million passengers, a 13.5 per cent increase compared with the same period last year, while flight movements rose 7.1 per cent year on year to 35,920.

The rise in passenger volume came after the airport’s third runway system was launched in November 2024.
