PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Meteorologists are no longer flying blind as the Portland National Weather Service announced the restoration of the KRTX Portland weather radar Friday afternoon.

A mechanical issue took Portland’s rain visibility via radar offline late Wednesday night. The outages lasted through Friday afternoon. Soaking rains moved through the area Thursday, but meteorologists where unable to track the rain showers efficiently.

The mechanical part that failed was delivered Friday and quickly replaced by National Weather Service technicians.

“After a brief mechanical issue, our technicians have restored our weather radar. That’s right…. it’s BACK,” posted the Portland National Weather Service on their Facebook page Friday afternoon. “Thanks to our techs who worked so quickly to repair it and get it back in service.”

This restored view of incoming rain comes just in time for the next round of wet weather that’s expected later this weekend.
