Cooking Well with Diabetes classes run Oct. 2-Oct. 23 in Waco

The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will host the four-part Cooking Well with Diabetes series in Waco beginning Oct. 2.

Participants in the Cooking Well with Diabetes classes Oct. 2 through Oct. 23 in Waco will learn how to prepare healthy meals to help manage diabetes. (Michael Miller/Texas A&M AgriLife)

The four-lesson course will be held from 5:30-7:30 p.m. every Thursday from Oct. 2 through Oct. 23 at the AgriLife Extension office in McLennan County, 4224 Cobbs Drive. The cost of this series is $25. The registration deadline is Sept. 30.

Cooking Well with Diabetes helps people living with diabetes and those who prepare food for them make healthier changes with planning, shopping and meal preparation strategies for balanced and delicious meals.

Cooking Well with Diabetes topics

The classes will be led by Rachel Esquivel, AgriLife Extension family and community health agent for McLennan County.

The interactive cooking demonstrations cover:

  • Recognizing carbohydrates in foods.
  • Planning balanced meals.
  • Increasing healthy fats.
  • Improving sodium and fiber content.
