Global agribusiness giant Louis Dreyfus Company (LDC) is building a new food technology park in China.
Located in Dongjiakou, Qingdao, Shandong province, the facility was in line with the group’s strategic plans to strengthen its core merchandising capabilities while expanding its value chain downstream, the company said on 26 June.
“Qingdao Food Technology Park is another significant development in LDC’s growth journey in the country and underlines the group’s long-term commitment to the Chinese market, where we have been active for over 50 years,” said Jerrity Chen, head of North Asia at LDC.
Operations at the new food technology park would include oilseeds crushing, processing of speciality feed proteins and products, as well as production of food-grade lecithin, the company said.
Once operational, LDC said the facility would have capacity to produce 1.5M tonnes/year of feed protein, 370,000 tonnes/year of refined oil and 15,000 tonnes/year of lecithin.
Located within Qingdao’s Dongjiakou Economic Zone, the park has a deep-water port connection to over 700 ports in around 180 countries and has advanced warehousing infrastructure and logistics networks.
“Shandong province, as China’s leading agricultural region … is a strategic location for the new park, which will serve as an important industrial base for LDC, from which to supply East China and broader Northeast Asia markets,” added Chen.
