16 Celebrities Who Spent So Much On Their Weddings That It’s Downright Dystopian

For most couples, a wedding “splurge” might be something like a designer wedding gown or a honeymoon to Disney World. However, when you’ve got more money than anyone could possibly spend in a single lifetime, you’re more apt to make choices that seem outrageous.

Here are 16 wildly expensive details from celebrity weddings:

1. Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s Madison Square Garden wedding was charming, if a little gauche. According to Page Six, the ceremony reportedly cost an estimated $30 million! The Knot Worldwide editorial director, Esther Lee, told the outlet that the couple likely spent about $5 million on flowers and decor, $5 to 10 million on transforming the venue, $2.5 to 3 million on catering, logistics, and guest services, and $2 million on attire and entertainment.

The wedding — which was controversially held during a heatwave when New Yorkers were asked to conserve their energy usage — also had another expense that would pay for a pretty extravagant wedding in itself. In a press conference, Mayor Mamdani confirmed that the singer paid for police overtime during her wedding. He said, “Taylor Swift will be paying…has paid already the cost of the permit that was lodged, which was over $160K for that event and for the response to that event. That was a permit that was finalized, I think, in just the days before the event itself.”

2. In 2025, Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez Bezos held a three-day wedding in Venice, which reportedly cost around €40 to €48 million ($45.7 to 54.8 million). Guests arrived on over 90 private jets and superyachts. Their pre-wedding festivities included a foam party, a pajama party, and a The Great Gatsby-themed party.

3. Kim Kardashian’s 2011 wedding to Kris Humphries reportedly cost $10 million, but she made out like a bandit! She reportedly got three $20K Vera Wang wedding gowns, $400K of Perrier Jouet Champagne, a $15K wedding cake, and $10K invitations all for free. Even her $50K bachelorette party was sponsored. Additionally, the couple was paid $15 million to turn their wedding into an E! special and $2.5 million to give People the exclusive photo rights.

4. Kim Kardashian and Kanye West got married at the Forte di Belvedere in Florence, Italy, in 2014. They reportedly paid $409,999 for the venue. Another massive expense? For the reception, they had a 224-foot marble table lifted in by crane. It was put on a platform so everyone could see the city’s skyline. Kim told Jimmy Kimmel Live, “We had this long table that everyone was eating at [during] the wedding, and, instead of having place cards, we engraved everyone’s name in this marble table. He was explaining to everyone that we engraved their names because everyone is engraved in our hearts.”

She added, “The worst was someone canceling last minute and not telling us, and their names are engraved. We tried to put white paint and cover the names.”

However, the luxury wasn’t limited to just the wedding! The couple hosted 200 guests at the Palace of Versailles in France for the rehearsal dinner. Then, they flew everyone to Florence on a pair of private jets. Finally, a “fleet” of 45 to 50 vehicles took the guests from the airport to the wedding venue, costing an estimated $70K!

5. In 2010, Chelsea Clinton and Marc Mezvinsky’s wedding reportedly cost between $2 to 5 million. Their ceremony featured an $11K gluten-free cake, $600K air-conditioned tents with glass walls, $500K flowers, $250K jewelry, and even $15K “high class” toilets!

6. In 2010, Nicole Richie married Joel Madden at her father Lionel Richie’s estate in Beverly Hills. Nicole views elephants as a symbol of luck, so a 47-year-old elephant greeted all 155 guests at the entrance. The live animal was a complete surprise to Joel, who told People, “I was like, ‘What?’ Then I just laughed — Nicole getting an elephant and not telling me is typical of our relationship. I am so the ‘no’ guy. But if there’s one time I want her to have the craziest thing she wants, it’s the day we marry.”

Animal rights groups criticized the couple for using a wild animal as wedding decor. In a statement, PETA said, “We’re sure she didn’t know that Have Trunk Will Travel — the company that likely provided Tai the elephant, who was taken from the wild as a baby more than 40 years ago — trains its elephants with bullhooks and electric shock prods. We’re writing to her privately to respectfully ask her to keep exotic animals off her guest lists for future celebrations.”

7. In 2010, Katy Perry married Russell Brand at a luxury resort in India. He reportedly bought her a female Bengal tiger named Machli as a wedding present. The tiger lived in Ranthambore National Park, which was near their venue. The park rangers called the cat the “epitome of beauty.”

However, the couple didn’t pull a Tiger King. They reportedly planned to leave Machli in India, and Russell would pay for her care.

8. Gucci Mane and Keyshia Ka’oir’s 2017 wedding in Miami reportedly cost $1.7 million. One of the most luxurious details from the “diamonds and crystals” themed ceremony was their $75K cake! Towering over 10 feet, the dessert was so tall that the couple needed a sword to cut it. On Instagram, Gucci, who’s 6’2″, said, “Cake double my size.”

The cake was designed by Edda Martinez of Edda’s Cake Designs. Three months of planning and three days of baking went into it. The decorations included 2,500 Swarovski crystals and 8,000 handmade sugar flowers.

9. In 2000, Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones reportedly had a $1.5 to 2 million wedding at NYC’s Plaza Hotel. However, he allegedly refused to tell her how much it actually cost. He told Movieline, “Whatever Catherine wants, that’s what she’ll get. We discuss things, but nothing’s come up that’s totally insane. She’s not an outrageous spender.”

10. In 2013, Michael Jordan and Yvette Prieto’s Palm Beach wedding reportedly featured “the largest wedding tent in history.” We’re not sure how much it cost, but the 40,000-square-foot tent — which surely offered plenty of space for their 2,000 guests — likely took up a good chunk of the wedding’s reported $10 million price tag.

11. When Brooklyn and Nicola Peltz Beckham got married in 2022, their Palm Beach wedding reportedly cost $4 million. This included a staggering $100K plus travel just for the bride’s hair and makeup! A countersuit that the wedding planners filed against Nicola’s billionaire father, Nelson Peltz, alleged that “Claudia [Nicola’s mom] mentioned to [one of the planners] that Nelson could not know the cost of the hair and makeup, or he would ‘kill her, and be so mad.'”

12. For Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s 2008 wedding, 70,000 of her favorite flowers — white dendrobium orchids — were reportedly shipped from Thailand to NYC. We don’t know how much the flowers cost, but Whole Blossoms charges $7.50 per white dendrobium orchid, so the flowers likely cost around $525K.

13. In 2000, Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt got married in Malibu. The reportedly $1 million ceremony featured “a wall of caviar.” They also reportedly spent a lot on performers. On Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen, guest Michael Rapaport, who attended the wedding, revealed that Billy Preston played the wedding, and Melissa Etheridge performed “Whole Lotta Love.” “A lot of bucks there,” he quipped.

14. When singer/model/presenter/heiress Victoria Swarovski married Werner Mürz in 2017, she wore a $1 million gown covered in 500,000 Swarovski crystals, of course. The 100-pound gown was designed by Michael Cinco. It also featured a 26-foot veil.

15. In 2022, Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker got married in Portofino, Italy. According to E! News, they allegedly spent an estimated $881,788 on private jets to get their family and friends there, $24,564 on water taxis for the weekend, and $18,501 to rent out Castello Brown (their venue).

16. And finally, in 2024, Anant Ambani — the youngest son of multibillionaire Mukesh Ambani, who was the richest man in Asia at the time — married his longtime partner, Radhika Merchant, in a lavish ceremony that reportedly cost upwards of $600 million! Their nuptials shattered the record for the most expensive wedding in India, which was previously held by Anant’s sister Isha Ambani’s $100 million wedding to Anand Piramal in 2018. Months before the three-day ceremony, the couple held a $150 million wedding party on a Mediterranean cruise for 800 guests. Citizens of Genoa, Italy, called the police over the noise, and people living in Portofino were angered as well.

The couple also shelled out for top-tier entertainment, reportedly paying Rihanna $6 million to perform. It was the singer’s first time onstage in almost eight years! At the pre-wedding sangeet a week before the actual wedding, they paid Justin Bieber a reported $10 million to fly out to Mumbai and perform.

While many people celebrated the international attention the wedding brought to Indian culture, others criticized the grand display of wealth in light of the nation’s inequality. According to the Guardian, 40% of India’s wealth is owned by 1% of the population. Mareesha Parikh, who co-founded Swaaha Weddings, a wedding planning agency in Mumbai, told the outlet, “Over the past decade, the main shift I’ve noticed is weddings going from being just about emotions to being about statement of status. Weddings are now the greatest platform for any business house, any industrialist, any person really to make a statement to their community about what a big deal they are.”
