YAAF: Mega Arbitration Disputes in Central Asia – Where The West, Russia, China, and the Middle East Meet

The significance of Central Asia has increased dramatically in recent years. Situated between China, Russia, the Middle East, and South Asia, with the Silk Road and major pipelines passing through it, Central Asia is where many global interests meet. Additionally, the region is incredibly rich in oil, gas, rare earth metals, minerals and other natural resources. While some interests from abroad want to control this vast natural wealth and attendant trade routes, many in Central Asia see this as a time to attract investment and continue to build the rule of law in the region. Perhaps unsurprisingly in light of this, the number and magnitude of arbitration disputes in Central Asia has increased significantly.

This panel will feature speakers with expertise in Central Asia and the state of business, rule of law, and dispute resolution there to discuss this rise in mega arbitrations and what it means for the future.
