In recent days, former Bayern Munich midfielder Xabi Alonso has been linked to both Chelsea FC and Liverpool FC regarding their respective coaching positions.
Chelsea has an opening, while Liverpool’s Arne Slot is on the hot seat.
Alonso, who was a mastermind at Bayer Leverkusen as a head coach, is coming off of a disastrous stint as manager at Real Madrid, where the team did not respond to his calls for discipline or even hard work per reports. Ultimately, his clashes with several star players led to his dismissal — which was a good thing. Real Madrid would eventually implode, something that culminated a few days ago after a nasty week of infighting (literally), fan revolt, and questions about the viability of the roster composition moving forward.
Per Fabrizio Romano, with all of that in his rearview mirror, Alonso could be eyeing a jump to England:
🚨 Xabi Alonso opens doors to Premier League move this summer after initial contacts with his agents.
Chelsea have a shortlist with candidates for the job and aware of his availability, same for Andoni Iraola who wants to continue in Premier League.
No decision made yet on club side.
After the Real Madrid debacle, Alonso will want to bide his time and be sure the situation is a fit.
