For years, Singaporeans have gravitated towards familiar favourites like Tokyo and Bali – destinations that tick all the boxes whether you’re travelling solo or with loved ones. But 2026 is shaping up to be different. Travellers are increasingly looking beyond the usual suspects, seeking out lesser-known gems that offer something fresh.
Take, for instance, Skyscanner’s recent 2026 Smarter Summer report, where it was reported that a significant 76% of travellers say they’re drawn to destinations that haven’t yet flooded their social feeds or their friends’ itineraries. In fact, 83% of that figure comprises Gen Zs, which shows that travellers are clearly opting for more authentic, off-the-beaten-path experiences.
But what does this mean for your upcoming travel plans? Quieter destinations with lower search interest are rising in appeal. To help you get ahead of the curve, we asked Brendan Walsh, Skyscanner’s Travel Trends and Destination Expert, for his top picks on places that deserve more attention.
