Two Lochgelly anglers reeled in honours at fundraising event

The anglers from Lochgelly were recognised for their achievements at the event which raised £2500 for Cancer UK.

The event was organised by Warren Malcolm, a three-time Scottish Open Forces Fly Fishing Champion.

Malcolm, known as Mal, decided to host the event after losing his mum to lung cancer at the end of September.

The fundraiser took place at Loch Etive in Argyll and Bute, with participants catching and safely returning a total of 202 fish over the course of the event.

Among the winners were Lochgelly anglers Paul Nichol, who was named top angler, and Andrew Wilson, who caught the best fish during the two-day competition.

Paul also earned the best boat award alongside Mal and Kai Malcolm from Crossford, after the trio caught 153 fish.

Mal expressed his gratitude to supporters and sponsors who helped make the event a success – including Persimmon Homes, who supported Mal and his family through his difficult time.

Thanks were also extended to the Falls of Lora for their hospitality, accommodation and food; Glasgow Angling Fishing Megastore for donations and equipment; Taynuilt Fishing Club for supplying the boats; Inverkeithing Engraving Trophy Shop for the engraved trophies; and all those who donated.

Melissa, a volunteer for Cancer UK, said the support from the angling community was deeply appreciated.

She said: “We are so grateful to everyone who supports our work and helps us to continue to fund Cancer UK research and support.

“On behalf of Cancer UK, I would like to sincerely thank Mal for organising such a fantastic event which has done so much to raise awareness of the disease.

“We wish Mal all the very best for his future fundraising.”
