After celebrating this season’s La Liga and Spanish Super Cup titles in the streets of Barcelona, the Blaugrana team wrapped up the season with a celebratory dinner that brought together not only the players and their partners, but also the coaching staff and the top brass of the sports management.
However, during the dinner, a curious detail was revealed: one of the players left the Casanova Beach Club early, fueling speculation about his departure.
Is he leaving Barça?
As José Álvarez explained on “El Chiringuito,” Jules Koundé could become one of FC Barcelona’s most high-profile departures in the upcoming transfer window, following his peculiar behavior during the Blaugrana squad’s celebratory dinner:
“Dinner started at 9:00 p.m. and he left at 9:47 p.m., just as the FC Barcelona anthem was playing, after Laporta’s speech—in other words, he only had the appetizer,” Álvarez commented, adding: “His name is Jules Koundé, and I think he could be one of the players leaving Barcelona.”
Since his arrival from Sevilla in 2022, Koundé has become a key player for the team and was regarded as one of the best right-backs in world soccer. Although his performance was inconsistent during the 2025-26 season, his market value remains high, and the club could capitalize on this.
This news comes as Barça continues to work on stabilizing its financial situation and complying with financial fair play regulations. In recent transfer windows, the club’s leadership has already been forced to part ways with some key players to balance the books and register new signings, and it is in this scenario that several players are emerging as potential candidates for departure, including Koundé, despite having a contract running through 2030.
In addition, the team also has considerable depth at the right-back position, as Eric García, Xavi Espart, Joao Cancelo, Héctor Fort (on loan at Elche), and Ronald Araújo remain solid options.
While there is still no official stance from Barcelona or the 27-year-old player’s camp, several Premier League teams—including Liverpool, Chelsea, and Manchester City—reportedly showed interest some time ago.
Meanwhile, uncertainty surrounding Koundé continues to grow, and José Álvarez’s statements have only fueled the rumors.
