Ted Danson Adjusts Lifestyle Following Recent Health Scare

Actor Ted Danson disclosed during a recent podcast appearance that a medical scare has prompted significant changes to his daily routine and perspective on life. The 78-year-old television veteran discussed the incident on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, while speaking on the Where Everybody Knows Your Name podcast.

The actor, currently starring in the Netflix series A Man on the Inside, characterized the experience as a turning point that forced him to confront his own mortality. He noted that the incident occurred despite having no previous history of health negligence.

“I had a bit of a health scare. I’m totally fine, but it was like, ‘That’s real.’ And it was humbling. Mortality is the real deal, you know. It’s not just a rumor. ‘Ted Danson doesn’t get a free pass. Love his work.’ But you know, and it was like, and I hadn’t f**ked up in some way,” said Danson, the former Cheers star.

Following the event, Danson integrated specific wellness practices into his schedule to maintain his well-being. He emphasized that the situation served as a catalyst for habits he had previously avoided or misrepresented.

“It was very humbling and calming, and I’m fine, but I think the best thing that could have happened to me. I’m doing some things differently. I am meditating now, twice a day with [my wife] Mary [Steenburgen], and it’s like, ‘Wow, that this I’ve always talked about it and lied about it,'” joked Danson.

The health incident also influenced the actor’s interpersonal philosophy and how he interacts with those around him. Danson described the renewed focus on others as a positive outcome of the frightening situation.

“But what it’s done for me, the biggest gift of all: you can be curious about other people, you can listen, you can be supportive, caring, you can witness them. And I do believe that the rest of my life is to be curious and listen. That’s the best thing I can offer,” Danson stated.
