Hong Kong will issue a No 8 typhoon signal at 9.20pm on Sunday, as Tropical Cyclone Tapah is expected to make landfall over western Guangdong the following morning, the Observatory said, with all schools suspending classes on Monday.
“Tapah is expected to skirt within 200km (124 miles) southwest of Hong Kong around sunrise tomorrow morning,” the forecaster said.
“It will then make landfall over western Guangdong. The Gale or Storm Signal, No 8 will remain in force at least until 11am tomorrow morning.”
The Education Bureau has announced that classes at all day schools—including secondary schools, primary schools, special schools, kindergartens, and kindergarten-cum-child care centres—will be suspended on Monday. Details regarding night class arrangements are due to be announced.
The Observatory warned that the seas would be rough with swells, and flooding could occur in low-lying areas on Monday morning.
