The Observatory says the Standby Signal No. 1 will remain in effect for the rest of Saturday.
At 11 am, tropical storm Danas was estimated to be about 400 kilometres east-southeast of Hong Kong and was forecast to gradually intensify and move north slowly.
The forecaster said chances of issuing higher warning signals is rather low.
It said there were swells and urged people to stay away from the shoreline.
